About the Author

Kurt has been married for 23 years and currently lives in Georgia with his beautiful wife. His oldest daughter is in college, and his younger one will be there soon. His favorite thing to do is spend time with his family, especially outdoors hiking or mountain biking.

Kurt’s passions have become helping people find the peace, joy and freedom that can be found by understanding how they fit in God’s great love story as well as helping rescue children from the bondage of slavery.

Book Introduction

Where is God today? Where is the peace, joy or freedom that is offered and promised in the Bible? Does God perform miracles or even talk to us in the modern world or is that an ancient belief? Does God care about each individual person on this earth, and if so, why would He love me? What would keep me from experiencing these gifts that God offers? Where is God today?

These are questions that I had before becoming a Christian and even after. In my conversations with other people, I’ve discovered that they, too, have had the same questions. In fact, it is not uncommon for people to question or doubt God’s love for them or even His existence because they do not see God doing anything in their life today. Consequently, they live their lives without God, and this was me for many years. Perhaps you are looking for God in your life or you are seeking a deeper relationship with Him or you just need a little bit of hope. Are you looking for peace, joy and freedom? My hopes and prayers are this book will shed light on these for you and help you engage with a loving God by first recognizing Him in your life.

Years after becoming a believer in Christ, these questions persisted even though I regularly attended church, read the Bible, and played in a praise band. One beautiful Sunday morning, the praise band played the song “Open the Eyes of My Heart” by Michael W Smith, which asks God to allow me to see Him. This song became a constant prayer for me. I craved seeing God in my life and in the world. Yet with my life experiences, I had not seen, heard, or felt Him. Many years later when sitting down to answer these questions, this prayer about opening the eyes of my heart continued and some insights were revealed from the strangest place—my past. God had been there with me all along; I just had not recognized Him.

Allow me to take you, the reader, on a journey where I will share stories that are sad, funny, and adventurous and those that recount the battles I’ve fought—some that ended in victory and some in failure. These stories will show how God moves in this world, and my hope is that they will help you reflect on possible encounters with God that you have not yet recognized, just as I had not. It is with gratitude for the ways God has worked in my life and for the lessons He has taught me that I want to honor Him in telling these stories.

If I were to attempt to sum up this book in one word, I would use the word: BEAUTIFUL. A beautiful book, a beautiful story written by a beautiful soul. It is a beautiful, disarming book that can give hope to a non-believer, a doubter or a believer. Other words I would use to describe this book are disarming, hope inducing, funny, humble, inspiring, real and raw.

In our world, several groups of people desperately need help. These groups of people live most days without a shroud of hope, and few care about their living conditions. One such group includes children being trafficked for sex. An estimated 6.3 million people are trafficked for sex around the world, with 99% of these victims being women and girls.1 Trafficking generates over $200 billion a year and sexual exploitation alone generates 73% of forced labor profits.

As part of this heinous industry, it is not uncommon for these kids to be snatched off the street by perpetrators or to be sold into slavery by their parents to pay for bills or drugs. A United Nations report states “Conviction for trafficking in children remain low and perpetrators continue to enjoy impunity, corruption, stigma, fear and lack of protection limits children’s ability to report and seek justice. As a result, trafficking in children remains a low cost and low risk, yet high profit crime, generating billions of dollars annually.” This is a frightening and sorrowful epidemic that needs a cure.

By purchasing this book, you are helping the fight against this plague. Fifty percent of the author’s proceeds from this book will be donated to an amazing organization called Agape International Missions (AIM), which is successfully working to stop this threat and heal the children and communities involved. AIM has found a way to make a huge difference, starting in Southeast Asia, one of the worst regions for trafficking. They work with the highest authority of police to avoid any corruption, play a part in writing their own warrants, and rescue the kids with their own SWAT team. They have trained social workers and doctors who serve at a dedicated safe house to help these kids heal and grow in a secure environment. In addition, they work in the community, teaching the parents and young men about how to protect the children while spreading the gospel. They do this in Jesus’ name and in Jesus’ way.

AIM has created a repeatable model and is expanding into more countries. I encourage you to investigate this organization yourself, and you will find they have the highest marks on all the charity trackers. If you were to meet the people who are working there, you would fall in love with them as you can truly see their hearts are fully in this mission and how God is working through them as His hands and feet.
